Mark Stevenson, Sastrugi Productions, June 10

            Mark Stevenson is an independent producer and videographer living in Dundas with his wife and daughter.  Mark's company is Sastrugi Productions.  He has a journalism degree from Ryerson University and an honours degree in political science from the University of Guelph.  Mark works on contract for a variety of media corporations including CNN, CTV, CBC, the Globe and Mail, the National Post, and the Discovery Channel.   His speciality is environmental issues.  Video documentaries Mark has produced include stories from Iceland on global warming, and tsunami science from Japan and Indonesia, both for the Discovery Channel, and coverage of the Asian Carp for CBC.  Mark told the Club how the huge Asian Carp (a non-indigenous species) are systematically ruining majestic rivers like the Mississippi and the Missouri as they head north. The fish are now poised to enter the Great Lakes with potentially devastating consequences as they are carnivorous, eating all the other fish species.  For CTV, Mark filed a reporter diary as he travelled with a group of students and scientists to the Antarctic, and for the Globe and Mail Mark visited Devon Island, high in the Canadian Arctic, to report on testing for the future Mars expedition.  For further information, visit http://www.markstevenson.ca/.  Mark can be emailed at mark@markstevenson.ca .
