Through a slide presentation Graeme shared quite a few of his cartoons from the past and present and spoke to the following:
• A fact that the use of editorial cartoons goes back centuries
• His job is not to be partisan but to target whoever is in power
• Nuance and innuendo are tools of the trade
• Social media has made people very political but also very uninformed
• The process of crafting editorial cartoons has moved from drawing on paper to using a tablet which makes the process much easier – Graeme shared a cartoon he did depicting the recent meeting of Zelensky and Trump in the Oval Office and then showed the template of the Oval Office he created in the past and continues to use
His cartoons do drive readership for the newspaper
• He has to consider what the future holds for a newspaper editorial cartoonist in a time of decreasing subscriptions to newspapers
