Thie Convery's Swim To End Polio

Thie entered the water on the shore of Lake Ontario at Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday August 6, 2010 at 9:38 AM. The water was rough and conditions were not the best. The first hour she swam 4 km and after that she averaged about 2 km per hour. Conditions continued to get worse as the waves went from 3 feet to over 6 feet. She continued swimming strongly on her way to Marilyn Bell Park in Toronto but shortly after 7 PM and 24 km covered of the 52 km distance the swim was terminated by the swim master because of the significant risk to the spotter boats and their teams of volunteers.
