David spoke to the club about Greenpeace.  David is a graduate of Highland Secondary School and the University of Waterloo.  In September David will start graduate studies at York University.  For the summer of 2008 David is working for Greenpeace.  The Greenpeace office in Hamilton is located at the Skydragon Centre in Hamilton.

            Greenpeace was founded in 1971, when a group of concerned Canadians sailed from Vancouver in a fishing boat for the US atomic test zone of Amchitka, Alaska to protest nuclear weapons tests.  After Greenpeace's inaugural action, the US abandoned its nuclear tests at Amchitka.    Today, Greenpeace is a global environmental organization operating in more than 40 countries with over 2.8 million members around the world. 

Some of the ecologically sensitive areas that Greenpeace is working to assist are the Great Bear Rain Forest, the Boreal Forest, the Amazon Rain Forest, and the Paradise Forest.    Amongst many other high-profile causes that Greenpeace is involved with are the anti-nuclear movement, and the sealing and whaling industries.  For further information about Greenpeace, please visit the website at www.greenpeace.org/canada.
