Classification Talk, Judy Emerson

As we have heard before, some of the best talks we hear on Tuesday mornings are from our own members. Certainly Judy's classification talk met that particular standard.
Judy quickly told us a bit about herself and her life in Rotary. She has been member of three Rotary Clubs in the last 22 years: the Hamilton Mountain Club (1985), the Hamilton Downtown Club, and the Dundas Valley Sunrise Rotary Club. She is a Paul Harris Fellow (1995). In addition, Judy is an avid curler and golfer (Dundas Valley).
Judy tapped on her 40 years in Commercial Insurance and related some really interesting tidbits to members of the club who might find the information "touching" on their lives. She related incidents of fire to those in the club who owned businesses: what would you have to pay for your employees, how would you deal with customers whose order was destroyed when almost finished and how would you deal with the banker who was on your doorstep to meet payments? She also used newspaper clippings to relate to other disasters, club members with similar interests, and types of insurance. For someone NOT in the business community, this was most enlightening; for someone in business, it must have been exceptionally informative. Judy touched on insurance for dishonest employees, recalls of products, omissions from contracts, old records, and even dealing with customers who use company vehicles.
Bottom line: Judy used her twenty minutes to inform the club in a meaningful and interesting manner. Thanks, Judy, and welcome to the club.
